Thanksgiving is just around the corner! It’s the perfect time of the year to talk with children about what it means to be thankful and complete an “I Am Thankful For…” Turkey Feathers Writing Activity.
Before beginning this activity, we read books about Thanksgiving and being thankful. (We love these 10 Turkey-ific Thanksgiving Books for Kids.) Then, we talk about the holiday and how we can show gratitude. Next, we brainstorm as a class and write down all of the things that we are thankful for in our lives. The children choose things from the list to complete the activity or come up with their own ideas when completing the activity.
“I Am Thankful For…” Turkey Feathers Writing Activity:
- I Am Thankful For… Turkey Printables
- Black Marker
Have your students…
- Cut out the turkey and the feathers.
- Glue the feathers onto the turkey.
- On each feather, write one thing that you are thankful for in your life.
- Trace over the words with the black marker.
- Color the turkey
In the download, there are two pages (pages 3 and 4) of feathers. One of the pages includes feathers with writing lines and the other page has blank feathers. I’ve always liked to use the feathers with writing lines with my Preschool and Kindergarten students and the blank feathers with my 2nd graders.
If you want to focus just on the writing, you can copy the turkey on brown construction paper and the feathers on different color pieces of construction paper too.
This “I Am Thankful For…” Turkey Feathers Writing Activity is a fun way for students to talk and write about what they are thankful for in their lives. This easy-to-make craftivity would make an adorable decoration in your classroom too.
