What Is Letter Recognition?

Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. Kids who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can distinguish between them too. Using hands-on activities like this one is fun for children who are learning to identify the letters of the alphabet!

Next, laminate the bird and crackers so your kids can use them over and over and cut them out. Finally, tape or glue the bird onto a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut out its mouth.

How To Use The Bird Letter Recognition Activity:

To begin using this alphabet activity, your preschoolers will select a cracker and identify the letter on it as they feed it to the bird.

If your kids are just starting to learn the names of the letters, start with just a few crackers. You can then add a couple more every time they play.

Learning the ABC's

When your kids know all of the letter names, they can say the sound that each letter makes as they feed the cracker to the bird. It’s easy to differentiate this activity for your kids!

This Bird Letter Recognition Activity is a fun, hands-on way for your preschoolers to practice identifying capital and lowercase letters!
