Bird Letter Writing Mats:
Before kids can learn how to read, they need to be able to recognize the letters of the alphabet by their shape. Using letter mats like these are a fun way for pre-writers to learn and practice letter shapes and formation.
Using this writing activity will help your kids work on using writing tools and their pencil grip too. Pre-writing activities are also a great way for kids to develop their fine motor skills, hand muscle strength, and more.
What is Letter Formation?
When learning how to form the letters of the alphabet, beginning writers need to practice where to put the pencil when they start to write the letter. They also need to work on moving the pencil in the correct direction to make the different parts of the letter. Kids should practice writing the different parts of each letter so they are the appropriate size and in the correct place.

How To Use The Bird Letter Writing Mats:
To use this writing activity, your pre-writers and beginning writers will pick a mat and identify the capital letter on it. They will then start at the bird and trace the letter using a dry erase marker.
When your preschoolers reach the nest, they have finished writing the letter. Finally, your kids can trace the letters at the bottom of the mat for extra letter formation practice.
For even more fun, your kids can use a small toy bird to trace the letter. They can also form the letter using mini erasers, play dough, pom poms, or any other small manipulative. There are so many different ways to use these letter mats!
