Are you looking for a fun way for your preschoolers and kindergartners to practice letter order and work on their fine motor skills? In this Connect Links Letter Order Activity, your kids will work on putting capital and lowercase letter in order as they develop hand and eye coordination, muscle strength, and much more!
Connect Links Letter Order Activity:
Learning letter is important for kids because it is a skill that we often use throughout our lives. Finding a book in a store or library, using the table of contents in a non-fiction book, and searching for a contact’s name in a phone are just a few of the ways that we use letter order. Learning letter order also helps children with their spelling skills, word work, and more!
As your kids connect the cards together using the links, your kids will also be developing their fine motor skills, finger muscle strength, hand and eye coordination, and much more. All of these skills are so important for pre-readers and pre-writers!

To prepare this letter recognition activity, click on the pencil below to automatically download and print the cards. I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too. Next, laminate the cards so your kids can reuse this activity and cut them apart. Finally, punch a hole on all of the black dots.
You can store the cards and connect links in a resealable bag like a pencil pouch for an easy literacy center to set-up or an on-the-go learning activity. If you don’t have connect links or math links, you can cut pipe cleaners into small pieces (about 3 inches long) and curl them to create links.
How To Use The Connect Links Letter Order Activity:
To begin this letter recognition activity, give your children just a few (3-4) letter cards. They will then connect the letters in order using the links. As your kids’ letter knowledge increases, you can give them more cards at one time to put in order. If you want to put all of the letters of the alphabet in order, you will need a large space like a hallway to connect them together.
Your children can also use these letter cards to practice matching capital and lowercase letters. They can pick a capital letter card and identify the letter on it. Your kids will find the matching lowercase letter and connect the two cards together using the connect links.
This Connect Links Letter Order Activity is a fun, hands-on way for your preschoolers and kindergartners to practice letter recognition and letter order!
