Connect Links Rhyming Words Activity:

Not only is this activity an interactive way for pre-readers to practice identifying rhyming words, but it will also help them develop their fine motor skills.

By connect the cards together using connect links, your kids will work on their hand and eye coordination, finger muscle strength, and much more.

Fine Motor Skills

Why Are Fine Motor Skills Important?

From holding a pencil to turning the pages in a book, kids use their fine motor skills as they are learning to read and write.

The development of the small muscles in the hands and fingers in coordination with the eyes is important in not only children’s learning but also in their everyday life.

  • Connect Links or Math Links

To prepare this rhyming activity, click on the pencil below to download and print the cards. I like to print my resources on white card stock because it is more durable. But, you can use white copy paper too.

Next, laminate the cards for extra durability and so your kids can use this activity over and over. Then, cut the cards apart and punch holes on all of the black dots.

Fine Motor Activity

You can store the cards and connect links in a pencil box or pouch for a literacy center that is easy to set-up and use.

If you don’t have connect links, you can cut a pipe cleaner in pieces that are about 3 inches long. Then, bend the pieces into ovals shapes to create your own links.

How To Do The Connect Links Rhyming Words Activity:

To begin this rhyming activity, your kids will pick a card and identify the picture on it. Next, they will sort through the other cards to find the word that rhymes.
