Elf Letter Writing Mats
Add a little holiday fun into your day with 25 Days of Christmas Activities! We are celebrating the season these festive Elf Letter Writing Mats! Your preschoolers will work on writing capital letters and developing their fine more skills as they help the Elf get to the present.
Elf Letter Writing Mats:
Before kids can learn how to read, they need to be able to recognize the letters of the alphabet by their shape. Using letter mats like these holiday-themed ones are a fun way for pre-writers to learn and practice letter shapes and formation.
Using this writing activity will help your kids work on using writing tools and their pencil grip too. Pre-writing activities like these are also a great way for kids to develop their fine motor skills, hand muscle strength, and more.
Why Are Fine Motor Skills Important?
From holding a pencil to turning the pages in a book, kids use their Fine Motor Skills everyday as they are learning to read and write. The development of the small muscles in the hands and fingers in coordination with the eyes is important in not only children’s learning but also in their everyday life.

How To Use The Elf Letter Writing Mats:
To use this writing activity, your pre-writers and beginning writers will pick a mat and identify the capital letter on it. They will then start at the elf and trace the letter using a dry erase marker.
When your preschoolers reach the Christmas present, they have finished writing the letter. Finally, your kids can trace the letters at the bottom of the mat to practice the letter formation.
For even more fun, your kids can use a small toy elf to trace the letter. They can also form the letter using jingle bells, play dough, pom poms, or any other small manipulative. There are so many different ways to use these letter mats!
