Are you ready for some football?! This Football Letter Recognition Activity is a fun, hands-on way for your preschoolers to work on learning the ABC’s and practice identifying lowercase and capital letters.
Football Letter Recognition Activity:
This letter recognition activity is an interactive way for pre-readers to practice recognizing lowercase and capital letters. You can have your kids work on one set of letters at a time.
You can also mix the letters together and work on both depending on your children’s letter knowledge. If your kids know all of the letter names, you can differentiate this activity and have them practice identifying the letter sounds.
What Is Letter Recognition?
Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. Kids who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can distinguish between them too. Using hands-on activities like this one is fun for children who are learning to identify the letters of the alphabet!

Next, laminate the footballs so your kids can use this activity over and over. Then, cut all the footballs out.
To set-up the sensory bin, fill a plastic container with green shredded paper and football toys. You can also use green colored rice, sand, or another sensory bin filler. Then, put the footballs in the shredded paper.
How To Use The Football Letter Recognition Activity:
To use this letter recognition activity, your preschoolers will pick a football out of the sensory bin and identify the letter on it.
If you are using the lowercase or capital letter recording sheets, they will then color the letter they picked using dot markers or crayons.
If you are using the letter writing recording sheet with the blank footballs, your kids will write a letter on each one.
This Football Letter Recognition Activity is a fun, hands-on way for your preschoolers to practice identifying lowercase and capital letters. Through this sensory activity, your pre-readers will use their different senses as they process and learn the letters of the alphabet too.
