What Is The Story Of The Gingerbread Man?
The Gingerbread Man is a folktale about a cookie who is made by an old lady. But, the cookie leaps from her oven and runs away. The woman and her husband chase the gingerbread man but are unable to catch him. He then outruns farm workers and farm animals.
The tale ends with a fox catching and eating the gingerbread man. However, there are many different versions of the story that have been shared through the years.

- White Card Stock or Copy Paper
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Glue
- Pencil

How To Use The Gingerbread Man Writing Activity:
After reading the book The Gingerbread Man by Gail Yerrill or another version of the story, you can brainstorm ideas with your class about how they would catch the cookie.
Your kids will then write how they would catch the gingerbread man. I had one student write, “To catch the gingerbread man, I would leave out a big bowl of icing that he would fall in as he was running.”
Next, your students will color and cut out the gingerbread man’s head. They will then attach it to the top of their paper.
Your students can share their stories and then you can hang the collection of cookies in the hallway for the entire school to see!
