Hot Air Balloon Counting Activity:
Not only is this activity an interactive way for preschoolers to practice counting and writing numbers, but it will also help them develop their fine motor skills.
By connect the cards together using connect links, your kids will work on their hand and eye coordination, finger muscle strength, and much more.
Why Are Fine Motor Skills Important?
From holding a pencil to turning the pages in a book, kids use their fine motor skills as they are learning to read and write.
The development of the small muscles in the hands and fingers in coordination with the eyes is important in not only children’s learning but also in their everyday life.

To prepare this book-inspired activity, click on the pencil below to download and print the cards. I like to print my resources on white card stock because it is more durable. But, you can use white copy paper too.
Next, laminate the cards for extra durability and so your kids can use this activity over and over. Then, cut the cards apart and punch holes on all of the black dots.
You can store the cards and connect links in a pencil box or pouch for a literacy center that is easy to set-up and use.
If you don’t have connect links, you can cut a pipe cleaner in pieces that are about 3 inches long. Then, bend the pieces into ovals shapes to create your own links.
How To Use The Hot Air Balloon Counting Activity:
To use this book-inspired activity, your kids will pick a card and count the number of hot air balloons on it. Next, they will attach that number of connect links to the card.
Then, your kids will use a dry erase marker and write the number of hot air balloons in the box.
You can extend the learning by asking your kids questions such as how many hot air balloons would there be if you had one more or one less.
This Hot Air Balloon Counting Activity is a fun, hands-on way for your preschoolers to practice counting and writing numbers to 10.
