Why Are Fine Motor Skills Important?

From holding a pencil to turning the pages in a book, kids use their fine motor skills as they are learning to read and write.

The development of the small muscles in the hands and fingers in coordination with the eyes is important in not only children’s learning but also in their everyday life.

You can store the cards and connect links in a pencil box or pouch for a literacy center that is easy to set-up and use.

If you don’t have connect links, you can cut a pipe cleaner in pieces that are about 3 inches long. Then, bend the pieces into ovals shapes to create your own links.

How To Use The Hot Air Balloon Counting Activity:

To use this book-inspired activity, your kids will pick a card and count the number of hot air balloons on it. Next, they will attach that number of connect links to the card.

You can extend the learning by asking your kids questions such as how many hot air balloons would there be if you had one more or one less.
