How To Make A Pom Pom Butterfly Craft:

To begin making this butterfly craft, paint the clothespins. After they dry, you may need to add a a second coat of paint. If you are making this craft with your class or a large group of kids and want to save time, you can buy colored clothespins.

While the paint is drying, fill snack bags with a handful of pom poms but make sure not to overfill the bag. Next, separate the pom poms by dividing the bag in half vertically. You want to make sure that there are pom poms on the right and left of the bag and space in the center.

Then, press bag down to let as much air out as possible and close bag. If you have too much air in the bag, it will be hard to bunch it up and create wings.

After it is sealed, gather up the middle of the bag together and place a clothespin in place to hold it together. You may even find that twisting the bag a few times in the middle is helpful.  You can also use a piece of tape in the center to hold it together.

Next, attach the googly eyes to the top of the clothespin for the butterfly’s eyes. Then, cut the pipe cleaner in three inch pieces and fold them in half to create a “V” shape. Finally, ad the pipe cleaner to the clothespin to create the butterfly’s antenna. The clamp from the clothespin should be able to hold the pipe cleaner, but you can add a little glue too.
