Letter A Sort:
This interactive activity is a fun way for your kids to practice identifying capital and lowercase letters. Your pre-readers will also work on developing their fine motor skills as they “feed” the aliens too.
What Is Letter Recognition?
Letter recognition is is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. In addition, kids who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can also distinguish between them too.

What’s Included:
- Capital and Lowercase Letter A Aliens
- Capital and Lowercase Letter A Apples
What Else Is Needed:
- White Card Stock or Copy Paper
- Scissors
- Paper Bag or Cardboard Box
- Glue
To prepare this alphabet activity, click on the button below. Then, download and print the aliens and apples. I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too.
Next, laminate the aliens and apples so your kids can use them over and over. Then, cut all of the pieces out. Finally, tape or glue the the aliens to a paper bag or cardboard box and cut out the mouths.
How To Use The Letter A Sort:
To use this letter recognition activity, your kids will pick an apple and identify if it has a lowercase or capital letter A. They will then “feed” it to alien with the lowercase or capital letter A.
To make this even more fun, put the apples into a container full of shredded paper, rice, or noodles for a sensory play activity that your kids are sure to love!
This interactive sorting resource an be used as an independent activity for young children in any early childhood classroom or homeschool.
