If you have kids who like to look up in the sky and watch for helicopters, let them create their own with this fun Letter H Helicopter Craft!
Helicopters are a bit more mysterious than airplanes because they are not as frequently used. Many people have taken a flight on an airplane but very few have actually flown in a helicopter. Introduce the world of helicopters to your students with this simple and fun transportation craft. Not only can they learn how to spell the word correctly (it’s tricky!), but they’ll also have fun creating their own helicopter as well!
How To Make A Letter H Helicopter Craft:
- Letter H and Helicopter Templates
- Craft Foam
- Black Marker
- Paper or Card Stock
To prepare for this activity, download the letter H and helicopter templates (click on the pencil below) and print them onto paper or card stock. Next, cut the letter templates out. If you are making these with a group of children, you may want to make a few letter templates. I usually make one or two per table so the students can take turns and share.
How To Make:
To begin making this transportation craft, your students will trace the letter H onto a piece of craft foam and cut it out. Next, they will trace the helicopter template onto any color of craft foam and cut it out.
After cutting all of the helicopter pieces out, your students will glue the clouds and sun to the letter H.
Next, they will glue the helicopter together.
Finally, the children will glue the helicopter onto the letter H.
As soon as we finished our Letter H Helicopter Craft, we ‘flew’ them through the classroom while making the sound that letter H makes. This is a fun way to practice letter recognition and the beginning sound of the letter H.
