What happens when your pre-readers give a moose a muffin?! They practice learning the ABC’s!

In this Moose & Muffin Letter Recognition Activity, your students will practice naming capital and lowercase letters as they feed the moose.

It’s a fun activity to do after reading the book, If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff.

You can easily differentiate this resource for your young learners. Your students can work on just identifying the capital or lowercase letters.

As their letter knowledge increases, you can mix the capital and lowercase muffins together and have them work on both. You can also have your pre-readers practice letter sounds.

• If You Give A Moose A Muffin by Laura Numeroff
• White Card Stock or Copy Paper 
• Scissors 
• Paper Bag or Cardboard Box
• Glue

To prepare this letter recognition activity for your kids, fill out the form below. Next, download and print the printables.

If you want your students to reuse this activity, laminate the moose and muffins. Then, cut the pieces apart.

Finally, tape or glue the moose on a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut the mouth out. 

How To Use The Moose & Muffin Letter Recognition Activity:

After reading the book If You Give A Moose A Muffin by Laura Numeroff, your pre-readers will pick a muffin and identify the capital or lowercase letter on it as they feed the moose.

If your preschoolers are just starting to learn the names of the letters, start with just a few muffins. You can then add more letters as their letter knowledge increases.

When your kids know all of the letter names, they can practice saying the sound that each letter makes as they feed the moose.
