What Is Letter Recognition?

To get this letter recognition activity ready for your kids, click on the pencil below to download and print the game board and cards. I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too.
Then, laminate the game pieces and cut the cards apart. For game pieces, you can use apple shaped mini erasers, pom poms, unifix cubes, or any other small manipulative.
How To Play The Penguin Alphabet Game:
To begin playing this alphabet game, the first player will pick a card and identify the letter on it. If he or she says the name correctly, he or she will roll a die and move that number of spaces on the apple game board.
Then, it is the next player’s turn. Play will continue until one player reaches the finish. That player is the game winner!
If your kids are just learning the ABC’s, you can start with just the lowercase or capital letter cards. As their letter knowledge increases, you can use both sets of cards together to differentiate the activity.
This Penguin Alphabet Game is an engaging way for kids to practice identifying lowercase and capital letters. Playing games with others is always a fun way to learn!
