Penguin CVC Words Activity:
During the winter, sometimes it is too cold and snowy to play outside for very long. So, we need to find indoor activities that will get our kids moving around the classroom or house. Write the room activities are not only a fun way to learn things like sight words, digraphs, CVC words, and much more. But, they are a great way to get kids up and out of their seats!
What Is Write The Room?
During a Write the Room activity, your kids get up and walk around the room finding cards with letters or words written on them. Then, they write those letters or words down on a recording sheet. These types of activities are easy to differentiate to meet the needs of all of your students. It’s also simple to set-up for literacy centers in your classroom or as an independent activity in your homeschool.
What Is A CVC Word?
A CVC word is a three letter word made up of a consonant, vowel, and consonant such as hat, leg, six, mom, and cup. When a vowel is followed by a consonant, it is a closed syllable and makes the vowel say its sound. CVC words are considered the simplest words for beginning readers because each letter makes its sound so they can decode and sound it out. Hands-on activities like this one makes practicing these skills fun for kids!

How To Use The Penguin CVC Words Activity:
To begin this CVC words activity, your kids will walk around the room and find a picture card. When they find one, they will say the name of the picture on it. Next, your kids will identify the beginning, middle, and ending sounds.
Finally, they will write the CVC word on the recording sheet for the number matching the number on the picture card. For example, the card with the picture of “map” has the number 6 on it, so your kids will write “map” in the box marked 6 on the recording sheet.
