Penguin Rice Krispie Treats

Are you looking for a fun winter themed snacktivity for your students to make? Then, these Penguin Rice Krispie Treats are just what you are looking for! Your students will love making these sweet treats after learning all about penguins or winter.

How To Make Penguin Rice Krispie Treats:

What’s Needed:

  • Kellogg’s Rice Krispie Treats (one for each student in your class)
  • Orange M&M Chocolate Candies
  • Package of Wilton Black Chocolate Candy Melts
  • Package of Wilton Bright White Chocolate Candy Melts
  • Large Candy Eyes
  • Wooden Sticks (Popsicle sticks or craft sticks)

Before making these sweet treats with your students, insert a wooden stick into the base of each Rice Krispie Treat. Next, place them cereal snacks on a plate and put them in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes.

How To Make:

To begin making these winter themed snacks with your students, pour the bag of Wilton black chocolate candy melts into a microwave safe dish. Next, heat the melts in the microwave in 30 seconds increments and then stir the chocolate until completely melted. If you don’t have a microwave in your classroom, you can also heat the chocolate in a slow cooker.

After melting the chocolate, remove the Rice Krispie Treats from the fridge. Your students can dip the treats into the melted chocolate or use a spoon to coat each one allowing the excess chocolate drip back into the bowl. The chocolate may be hot so make sure your students are cautious. You may want to ask a parent or family member to volunteer and help with this activity.

Next, your students can place their chocolate dipped Rice Krispie Treat on paper plate. To prevent it from sticking they can line their plate with a piece of wax paper or parchment paper.

Now the fun begins! Your students can decorate their penguin with 2 large candy eyes and 1 orange M&M nose. They can then place 1 bright white candy melt under the nose for the penguin’s belly. Finally, your students can place 2 orange M&M’s on the bottom of the penguin for feet.
