What would St. Patrick’s Day be without a pot of gold?! In this Pot of Gold Letter Recognition Activity, your preschoolers will fill the pot full of gold coins as they practice learning the ABC’s.
Pot of Gold Letter Recognition Activity:
This hands-on activity is a fun way for preschoolers to practice identifying capital and lowercase letters. Depending on your children’s letter knowledge, you can work on one set at a time.
As they learn the alphabet, you can mix the capital and lowercase letter gold coins together and have them work on both. You can also have your pre-readers practice letter sounds.
What Is Letter Recognition?
Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. Young learners who can identify the letters of the alphabet can distinguish between them too. Using hands-on activities like this one is a fun way for pre-readers to practice letter recognition!

Next, laminate the pot of gold and gold coins, so your kids can use them over and over. Then, cut the pieces apart. Finally, tape or glue the pot of gold on a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut the mouth out.
How To Use The Pot of Gold Letter Recognition Activity:
To use this letter recognition activity, your preschoolers will pick a gold coin and identify the letter on it as they put it in the pot.
If your kids are just starting to learn the names of the letters, start with just a few gold coins. You can then add more letters as their letter knowledge increases.
When your preschoolers know all of the letter names, they can practice saying the sound that each letter makes as they put the gold coin in the pot.
