Pumpkin Paper Bag Puppet:
Not only is this craft a creative way for your kids to learn about emotions, but they will also develop their hand and eye coordination, muscle strength, and other important developmental skills as they create their puppet.
Creating crafts like this one can be a great way for young learners to work on their listening comprehension and following multi-step directions.
Why Do We Need To Teach Kids About Emotions?
Teaching children about emotions is important because how they feel inside influences what they think and what they do.
Young children may not realize what they are experiencing or feeling. It is important for them to learn how to identify different emotions so they can understand how they are being affected.

How To Make The A Pumpkin Paper Bag Puppet:
After reading The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano, you can show your kids the different pumpkins and talk about how they think each pumpkin feels based on their expressions.
You can also refer back to the story and ask your kids about the different ways that Spookley felt throughout the book.
For example, how did the square pumpkin feel when the other pumpkins made fun of his shape? Or, how did Spookley feel after he saved the other pumpkins?
After your kids pick which pumpkin they want to use for their puppet, they will color it if you are using the black and white templates.
Then, they will cut their pumpkins and the “My pumpkin feels _____” or “I feel _____” card out.
Next, your children will glue their pumpkins and the card to a paper bag. They may want to cut the paper bag and make it a little smaller so their hand easily fits inside.
Finally, your kids will write how their pumpkin feels based on its expression. They can also write how they feel using the other card.
