Pumpkin Seed Addition Activity:

In this activity, your young learners will be working on literacy skills such as listening comprehension as you read them your favorite book about pumpkins. 

 

Your preschoolers and kindergarteners will also be practicing math concepts including identifying numbers and adding to 10.

  • Pumpkin Book for Kids 
  • White Card Stock 
  • Laminator and Laminating Pouches
  • Scissors
  • Paper Bag or Cardboard Box
  • Glue or Tape
  • Pumpkin Seeds (optional)

 

Addition Activity for Kids

After receiving the email, download and print the pumpkin and seeds on white card stock. Next, laminate the printables so your kids can use them over and over.

 

Then, cut the pumpkin and seeds out. Finally, tape or glue the pumpkin on a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut out its mouth. 

 

After preparing the activity, make copies of the recording sheet for all of your students. 

 

How To Use The Pumpkin Seed Addition Activity:

For this hands-on activity, your children will pick a pumpkin seed and read the addition fact on it.

Next, your kids will say the answer to the problem as they “feed” the pumpkin or put the seed in it. 

 

If your young learners are just starting to learn their facts, you can start with just a few seeds. When they know those facts, you can add a few more every time they play.

You can also have your children use real pumpkin seeds to help them add the numbers on the card. 

 

As your kids are working, they can write the addition problems and answers on the recording sheet too.
