Calling all future astronauts… before you head off to NASA, practice letter formation with these free printable Space Letter Writing Mats! Writing activities like this one are a fun way for your pre-writers to not only learn how to form capital letters but also develop their fine motor skills.
Space Letter Writing Mats:
Before your children can learn how to read, they need to be able to recognize the letters of the alphabet by their shape. Using letter mats are a fun way for pre-writers to learn letter shapes and practice letter formation.
Using this writing activity will help your kids work on using writing tools and their pencil grip too. Pre-writing activities are also a great way for kids to develop their fine motor skills, hand muscle strength, and more.
Why Are Fine Motor Skills Important?
From holding a pencil to turning the pages in a book, kids use their fine motor skills every day as they are learning to read and write.
The development of the small muscles in the hands and fingers in coordination with the eyes will not only help children when they are learning but also in their daily lives.

How To Use The Space Letter Writing Mats:
To use this writing activity, your pre-writers and beginning writers will pick a mat and identify the capital letter on it. They will then start at the rocket and trace the letter using a dry erase marker.
When your preschoolers reach the moon, they have finished writing the letter. Finally, your kids can trace the letters at the bottom of the mat for extra letter formation practice.
For even more fun, your children can use a small space toy such as a rocket or an astronaut to trace the letter.
They can also form the letter using mini erasers, play dough, pom poms, or any other small manipulative. There are so many different ways to use these letter mats!
These Space Letter Writing Mats are a hands-on way for your preschoolers to work on writing capital letters, fine motor skills, and much more!
