Sun Letter Recognition Activity:
This letter recognition activity is a fun way for pre-readers to practice recognizing lowercase and capital letters.
You can have your kids work on one set of letters at a time. You can also mix the letters together and work on both depending on your children’s letter knowledge.
If your kids know all of the letter names, you can differentiate this activity and have them practice identifying the letter sounds.

- 3 Letter Recording Sheets
- Color the Lowercase Letters
- Color the Capital Letters

What Else Is Needed:
- White Card Stock or Copy Paper
- Laminator
- Laminating Pouches
- Scissors
- Dot Marker, Crayons, or Pencil
- Plastic Container
- Blue Shredded Paper
- Cotton Balls
To prepare this alphabet activity, fill out the form below. Next, download and print the suns and the recording sheet that you want to use.
Then, laminate the suns so your kids can reuse this activity and cut them out.
To set-up the sensory bin, fill a plastic container with blue shredded paper and cotton balls. You can also use blue colored rice, sand, or another sensory bin filler. Then, put the suns in the shredded paper.
How To Use The Sun Letter Recognition Activity:
Your kids will select a sun out of the sensory bin and identify the letter on it.
If you are using the lowercase or capital letter recording sheets, they will then color the letter they picked using dot markers or crayons.
If you are using the letter writing recording sheet with the blank suns, your kids will write one letter on each one.
This Sun Letter Recognition Activity is not only a fun activity for summer but it’s also a hands-on way for your pre-readers to practice identifying lowercase and capital letters.
Through this sensory activity, your children will use their different senses as they process and learn the letters of the alphabet too.
