Learning syllables an important part in learn how to read, because it help kids decode or break the word into chunks. Breaking a word into syllables can also help children learn how to spell new words.

If you want your kids to be able to check their answers, mark a dot or put a sticker on the back of the card where the clothespin will be after they clip it. Next, laminate the cards so your kids can use them over and over and cut them apart. You can store the cards with some clothespins in a pencil box or pouch.

How To Use The Syllable Clip Cards:

To use this phonics activity, your kids will pick a clip card and say the name of the animal on it. They will then listen for the number of syllables in the word and clip a clothes pin on the number.

If your kids pick the card with the picture of the horse on it, they will say the name of the picture, identify that it has two syllables, and place a clothespin on the number 2 on the card.
