Tie Dye Coffee Filter Monster

Get ready to make a colorful and creative Halloween craft! This Tie Dye Coffee Filter Monster is a super fun, process art activity for children of all ages.  It is one of my favorite crafts to make in a classroom or group of children because no two monsters are alike.

Monster Craft

How To Make A Tie Dye Coffee Filter Monster:

Creating crafts can be a fun way for kids to develop their fine motor skills, hand and eye coordination, muscle strength, and much more. These developmental skills are important, because they will help children be able to hold a pencil, write, and even turn pages in a book.

What’s Needed:

  • Coffee Filters
  • Washable Markers
  • Spray Bottle with Water
  • Black Card Stock
  • White Card Stock
  • Scissors

How To Make A Tie Dye Coffee Filter Monster:

To begin making this Halloween craft, your kids will color the coffee filter with washable markers.  They don’t have to color the entire coffee filter completely, because the colors will spread and blend together.

Next, your kids  will spray the colored coffee filter with water.  They should use just enough water to make the colors blend together.  This can be a little messy so they should spray the coffee filter on a washable work surface such as a plastic tray or place it on a piece of butcher paper.

Process Art Activity

After spraying it with water, let the coffee filter dry completely. While the it is drying, cut different shapes out of the white and black paper for the monster’s eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, horns, and hair. Your kids can add more color to the monster by using different color paper too. Finally, they will glue the parts of the monster’s face onto the coffee filter.

Extend The Learning:

Are you looking for ways to extend this process art activity? Here are some ways to add an educational component to this craft:

  • Your kids can work with a someone else to complete a Venn diagram and compare and contrast how their monsters look.
  • They can also write creative stories about their monsters and share them with their classmates or friends.
  • You can read picture books about monsters like How To Catch A Monster by Adam Wallace or I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll.
