It’s National Dentist’s Day! Have your preschoolers work on developing their fine motor skills while learning the ABC’s with this Tooth Brushing Alphabet Activity.
Tooth Brushing Alphabet Activity:
This multi-sensory, pre-reading activity is one of our favorites! It is a fun, hands-on way for kids to work on letter knowledge by identifying both capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet. Pre-writers will also practice letter formation as they write the letters on their recording sheet.
Using a toothbrush to brush the tooth and reveal the letter will help kids develop their dexterity and fine motor skills. This interactive activity is a simple way to add an important life skill into your literacy lesson too.
This alphabet activity can be used in any early childhood classroom or homeschool. Or, you can simply use it with your kids at home for some extra letter knowledge practice. Children should be supervised while completing this activity though so they do not consume the toothpaste.
What Is Letter Recognition?
Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. Kids who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can distinguish between them too.
Getting Ready To Use The Tooth Brushing Alphabet Activity:
- Capital Letter Teeth Cards
- Lowercase Letter Teeth Cards
- Alphabet Teeth Recording Sheet
- White Card Stock
- Laminating Pouches
- Toothpaste or Paint
- Cup of Water
To prepare this alphabet activity, fill out the form below to get the printables in your inbox. After receiving the email, download and print the cards and recording sheet. I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too.
Then, laminate the cards and cut them apart. Finally, spread a thin layer of toothpaste or paint on each card you are using so that it covers the letter.
How To Use The Tooth Brushing Alphabet Activity:
To play, your kids will select a card and brush the toothpaste off of it. They may need a cup of water to rinse the toothbrush and a towel to wipe the residue off the cards. Your kids will then identify the letter on the card and write it on the recording sheet.
Your kids are sure to have fun learning the letters of the alphabet while brushing their teeth while doing this Tooth Brushing Alphabet Activity. It’s an educational and entertaining letter knowledge activity for your pre-readers to do during Dental Health Month!
