Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. In addition, kids who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can also distinguish between them too. Using hands-on activities like this one is fun for kids who are learning to identify capital and lowercase letters!

- 26 Lowercase Letter Heart-Shaped Cookies
- 26 Capital Letter Heart-Shaped Cookies
What Else Is Needed:
- White Card Stock or Copy Paper
- Scissors
- Paper Bag or Cardboard Box
- Glue
To get this letter recognition activity ready for your kids, click on the button below to automatically download and print the resource.
I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too.
Next, laminate the monster and heart-shaped cookies, so your kids can use them over and over. Then, cut the pieces apart.
Finally, tape or glue the monster on a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut the mouth out.
How To Use The Valentine Monster Letter Recognition Activity:
To use this letter recognition activity, your preschoolers will pick a heart-shaped cookie and identify the letter on it as they feed the Valentine monster.
If your children are just starting to learn the names of the letters, start with just a few cookies. You can then add a few more letters every time they play.
You can differentiate this activity for your kids. When they know all of the letter names, they can practice saying the sound that each letter makes as they feed the monster the heart-shaped cookies.
