Are you looking for a letter recognition activity for your preschoolers to do this winter? These Winter Alphabet Clip Cards are a fun way for pre-readers to practice learning the ABC’s and develop their fine motor skills.
Winter Alphabet Clip Cards:
By squeezing clothespins open and attaching them to the cards, your kids will be developing their fine motor skills, finger muscle strength, and hand and eye coordination. All of these developmental skills are so important for pre-readers and pre-writers!
Why Are Fine Motor Skills Important?
From holding a pencil to turning the pages in a book, kids use their fine motor skills as they are learning to read and write.
The development of the small muscles in the hands and fingers in coordination with the eyes will not only help children when they are learning but also when they are doing things in their everyday lives.

To prepare this alphabet activity, click on the pencil below to download and print the cards that you need. I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too.
Next, cut the cards apart. If you want your kids to be able to check their answers, mark a dot or put a sticker on the back of the card where the clothespin will be after they clip it.
Then, laminate the cards so your kids can use them over and over and store them in a resealable plastic bag or pencil pouch.
How To Use The Winter Alphabet Clip Cards:
After your kids have learned both capital and lowercase letters, they can start to make the connection between the two and match them together even when they don’t look alike.
Your kids will pick a card and identify the letter on it. They will then find the matching letter and clip a clothespin on it. If you marked the answer on the back of the card, they can flip it over and check to see if they clipped the correct letter.
These Winter Alphabet Clip Cards are a fun, hands-on way for pre-readers to work on letter recognition and their fine motor skills. They can be used as an independent activity for young children in any early childhood classroom or homeschool.
