Witch Sight Word Activity
Put those flashcards away and make learning fun for your beginning readers with this Halloween-themed Witch Sight Word Activity!
Halloween literacy activities like this one are a “boo-rific” way for your kids to learn words that don’t follow the rules and high-frequency words.
Add this themed resource to your Halloween literacy centers or morning tubs this October.
There are two types of sight words. The first group is made up of words that don’t follow phonics “rules” so your kids need to memorize them.
The second group includes words that are frequently used in writing. Your children should memorize these words, so they can build fluency and don’t have to sound them out when they are reading.
Learning sight words can be challenging (and boring) for some children, but using hands-on activities engages and entertains your young learners.

How to Use the Halloween Word Work Activity:
For this word work activity, your children will pick a piece of candy. As they feed it to the witch, your kids will read the sight word on it.
One way to help your beginning readers memorize and learn these new words is to provide them with a small set of four or five cards to read.
After they learn those words, you can give them four or five more. You can continue giving them a few cards every time they do this activity until they have learned all the new words.
If your students know all the words, have them use the sight words to form a sentence or alphabetize them. There are many different ways to use this word work activity!
This Halloween-themed Witch Sight Word Activity is a “spook-tacular” way for your kids to learn and practice reading sight words!
