Why Are Fine Motor Skills Important?

From holding a pencil to turning the pages in a book, kids use their fine motor skills as they are learning to read and write.

The development of the small muscles in the hands and fingers in coordination with the eyes is important in not only children’s learning but also in their everyday life.

First, your kids will paint three craft sticks green. To save time, you can use the ones that are already colored green.

Kid Crafts

After the paint dries, your children will glue the ends of the craft stick together to foam a triangle shape.

Then, the fun begins! Your kids will wrap the yarn all around the craft sticks. You can use glue or tape to hold it in place as your wrap it. After the triangle is wrapped in yarn, cut it and glue the end to the craft sticks.

Fine Motor Skills

After the glue dries, stick a yellow foam star stick to the top. You can also use yellow craft foam and cut out your own star. Then, cut a small rectangle out of brown craft foam and glue it to the bottom of the triangle.

Fine Motor Activity

Next, glue sequins to the tree. To turn your craft into an ornament, cut a piece of pipe cleaner or ribbon that is about 3 inches long. Then, bend it to create a loop and glue the end to the back of the tree.
