This interactive activity is a fun way for pre-readers to practice identifying capital and lowercase letters.

Depending on your children’s letter knowledge, you can mix capital and lowercase letter gumdrops together and have them work on both.

If your kids know all of the letter names, they can practice saying letter sounds as they feed the gingerbread man. . 

What Is Letter Recognition?

Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters.

Children who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can distinguish between them too.

What Else Is Needed:

To prepare this alphabet activity for your kids, fill out the form below. After getting this resource in your inbox, download and print the printables. 

Next, laminate the gingerbread man and gumdrops so your kids can use this activity over and over. Then, cut all the pieces out.

Finally, tape or glue the gingerbread man on a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut out its mouth. 

How To Use The Gingerbread Letter Recognition Activity:

To use this letter recognition activity, your kids will pick a gumdrop and identify the capital or lowercase letter on it as they feed it to the gingerbread man.

 

If your children are just starting to learn the names of the letters, start with just a few gumdrops. You can then add a couple more every time they play.

 

When your kids know all of the letter names, they can say the sound that each letter makes as they feed the gingerbread man.
