What You'll Find On This Page
Snow Alphabet Sensory Bin:
A sensory bin is a container or tub filled with a material such as water beads, sand, or shredded paper. You can also add other objects that will stimulate your children’s senses. They are a fun, hands-on way to explore and learn other concepts such as letter recognition and pre-reading skills.
What Is Letter Recognition?
Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. Kids who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can distinguish between them too.

To prepare this alphabet activity, click on the pencil below to download and print the recording sheet. I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too.
To set-up the sensory bin, fill a plastic container with snow. You can also use white shredded paper, cotton balls, or white sand. Next, put the foam letters in the snow.
How To Use The Snow Alphabet Sensory Bin:
For this sensory activity, your kids will pick a foam letter out of the sensory bin and identify it. They may want to wear a pair of gloves if they have to touch the snow to get the foam letters.
Your kids will then use crayons or markers to color trace the capital letter on the recording sheet. If your kids are just starting to learn their ABC’s, have them work on just a few letters and then add letters every time you do this activity.
This letter recognition sensory bin can be used as an independent or small group activity in any early childhood classroom or homeschool.
This Snow Alphabet Sensory Bin is a hands-on letter recognition activity and a fun way to add more sensory play into your day.
