With this Christmas-themed activity, your pre-readers and beginning readers can practice learning letter names and beginning sounds. 

You can add this resource to your morning tubs, literacy centers, or early finisher bins. You can also use it during small groups or as an intervention activity.

  • 26 Fruit Cakes with Lowercase Letters

What Else Is Needed:

To get this alphabet activity ready for your pre-readers to use, fill out the form below.

Then, download and print the elf and fruit cakes on white card stock.

Next, laminate the printables so your children can reuse this activity. Then, cut the pieces apart.

Christmas Activity for Kids

Finally, tape or glue the elf on a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut out its mouth. 

You may also want to sort the capital and lowercase fruit cakes into two different groups, so your kids can work on one set at a time. 

How To Use The Elf Letter Recognition Activity:

For this letter recognition activity, your children will pick a fruit cake card and say the name of the capital or lowercase letter on it as they “feed” it to the elf.

If your pre-readers are just starting to learn the names of the letters, start with just a few fruit cake cards. As they learn the letters, you can add more. 

If your kids already know the names, they can practice saying the sounds that each letter makes as they feed the elf.
