Are you looking for activities to keep your kids learning when school is out? Grab these free printable Summer Beginning Sound Puzzles!

Summer Literacy Activities like this one are  a fun way for your preschoolers and kindergarteners to practice identifying letters, sounds, and much more!

Reading Activities

Before your kids can learn how to read, they need to learn the sound(s) that each letter makes, so they can decode or sound out words.

When your children know the letter sounds, they will be able to read unknown words more easily and make the connection between words in print and spoken words.

Using interactive activities like these puzzles is a fun way for your beginning readers to learn letter sounds!

How to Use the Summer Beginning Sounds Activity:

For this phonics activity, your kids will first pick a puzzle piece with letters on it.

Next, they will say the letter name and the sound that it makes.

Initial Sounds Activity

Then, your children will sort through the puzzle pieces to find the one with a picture that begins with that sound.

When your beginning readers find the picture, they will math the two pieces of the puzzle together.

For example, your kids pick the “Aa” puzzle piece. They will then find the piece with the alligator on it and put the puzzle together to create a sun.

Beginning Sounds Activity

If your preschoolers have just started learning the letter sounds, start with a few puzzles. You can add more as they learn the sounds.
