Naming Capital and Lowercase Letters

Yeti Letter Recognition Activity:

This interactive activity is a fun way for pre-readers to practice identifying capital and lowercase letters. Depending on your children’s letter knowledge, you can mix capital and lowercase letter snowballs together and have them work on both. You can also have your preschoolers practice letter sounds.

What Is Letter Recognition?

Letter recognition is the ability to recognize and name all of the lowercase and capital letters. Kids who can recognize the letters of the alphabet can distinguish between them too. Using hands-on activities like this one is fun for children who are learning to identify the letters of the alphabet!

To prepare this letter recognition activity, click on the pencil below to download and print the printables. I like to print my resources on white card stock, because it is more durable. But, you can use copy paper too.

Next, laminate the Yeti and snowballs so your kids can use them over and over and cut them out.

Finally, tape or glue the Yeti on a paper bag or cardboard box (such as a small tissue box) and cut out his mouth.

How To Use The Yeti Letter Recognition Activity:

To begin this alphabet activity, your preschoolers will select a snowball and identify the letter on it as they feed it to the Yeti.

If your kids are just starting to learn the names of the letters, start with just a few snowballs. You can then add a couple more every time they play.

Learning the ABC's

When your kids know all of the letter names, they can say the sound that each letter makes as they feed Yeti. It’s easy to differentiate this activity for your kids!

This Yeti Letter Recognition Activity is a fun, hands-on way for preschoolers to practice identifying capital and lowercase letters!
