It’s National Farm Animals Day! From cows to pigs, kids love farm animals! And, these Farm Animal Play Dough & Letter Mats are a fun way to celebrate your children’s favorite animals and practice their letter recognition!
Farm Play Dough & Letter Mats:
This sensory activity is not only entertaining but educational too! Your pre-readers will create a farm animal out of play dough and then work on letter knowledge by practicing letter formation and letter writing.
As as your kids squeeze, roll, and squish the play dough, they will also develop their dexterity, fine motor skills, hand muscle strength and more. These skills are so important for pre-writers!

Then, try making our Kool-Aid Play Dough to use with these mats. It’s a sensory-friendly recipe that smells so sweet and is soft to touch. Your kids will have so much fun making it too!
How To Use The Farm Play Dough & Letter Mats:
To begin playing with this sensory activity, your kids will pick a play dough and letter mat. Next, they will say the name of the animal and the letter and sound it begins with. Your children will then use play dough to make the farm animal.
Finally, your kids will trace the letters that the picture begins with and the word.
This multi-sensory resource can be used as an independent activity for young children in any early childhood classroom or homeschool. If you are a classroom teacher, these mats can used for literacy centers, morning tubs, or as an enrichment activity. For homeschoolers, try strewing this activity or include it in your morning basket.
