A CVC word is a three letter word made up of a consonant, vowel, and consonant such as hat, leg, six, mom, and cup. When a vowel is followed by a consonant, it is a closed syllable and makes the vowel say its sound. CVC words are considered the simplest words for beginning readers because each letter makes its sound so they can decode and sound it out. How To Use The Magnetic Letter CVC Words Activity:
To use this magnetic letter activity, your kids will select a CVC word mat and identify the first picture on it. Next, they will sound out the word and find the magnetic letters for the beginning, medial, and final sounds. Your children will then build the word by putting a letter in each box to spell the CVC word correctly.
Each CVC word mat has one picture for each medial vowel sound. On the first mat, the pictures include bag, web, zip, fox, and sun. The second mat has pictures for the words can, pen, six, mop, and nut. On the third mat, your kids will build the words jam, red, pig, fog, and tub.
This interactive resource can be an independent activity for young children in any early childhood classroom or homeschool. If you are a classroom teacher, these mats can used for centers, morning tubs, or as an enrichment activity. For homeschoolers, try strewing this activity or include it in your morning basket.
